  Company History

Schema Research Corp. was incorporated in 1992 out of a sole proprietorship. The primary business was database consulting and training. The first software product was SchemaE, a database design tool running on Macintosh.

Soon thereafter, NeXT Computer, Inc. provided education and equipment to port SchemaE from Apple Macintosh to NEXTSTEP. SchemaE was shown at a number of tradeshows, and sold internationally.

In addition to selling SchemaE, Schema Research provided database application development services and training. The primary platforms were Sybase, Solaris and NEXTSTEP.

A private firm funded the initial development of SRTransport. The SRTransport-ES server on HPUX and Solaris (with and with out PDO) broadened Schema's platform offerings.

SchemaE and SRTransport were ported through all of NeXT's software upgrades i.e. from NEXTSTEP to OpenStep (on Intel, Motorola, SPARC and HP-PARISC), and then to NT and Mac OS X Server (Rhapsody) and finally to Mac OS X.

For the few years when NeXT was determining its next step, which ended with its purchase by Apple, Schema Research assisted some of the many large companies using NeXT's enterprise software, variously called OpenStep mach, OpenStep Enterprise (NT), YellowBox and most recently, WebObjects.

SRBrowse was created for our own use in our consulting practice, and it was decided that it would be provided to the development community without charge.
